PRODUCT DESIGN, PURE RADIOWhy did no one think of producing a rubber radio before?
Now we know.
Our Consumer Affairs correspondent, TILDA BRAUN. writes Hundreds of thousands of people have been beguiled by the smart design and the novel rubbery mat finish of some models of Pure radios. But there is a big snag: buyers have found those with a matt rubberised coating are impossible to clean. Over time grubby finger marks show up on the light-coloured models.
Rubber Radio: the YUK! factor
Pure’s forlorn recommendation is hardly helpful. ‘If the case is sticky then it may be worth wiping the radio with a clean, damp cloth. You can also try washing up liquid.’ Neither works. They also suggest rubbing alcohol but admit that ‘will completely remove the rubbery material and leave the plastic underneath’. As design faults go: quite serious. And not too encouraging at a time when exports will be crucial.
